ImageJeffrey Chock was born in Belmont, Port of Spain in 1943. It was not unnatural for him to have an early interest in Carnival, as his mother sewed carnival costumes for the legendary bandleader of the 1950s, Harold Saldenah. By the time he was twelve, he had started making photographs, and Carnival was a natural subject to engage him. On finishing secondary school in Trinidad, he left for London to further his skills as a photographer. There he also took to photographing Dance and Drama.

On returning to Trinidad in 1978, it occurred to him that the techniques he had acquired in photographing Dancers and Actors could equally be applied to photographing the Trinidad Carnival. Gradually he acquired the taste for all aspects of the Festival and strategies for documenting them on film. In fact, what he had discovered was the documentation of the art of Performance.

Since that time, his photographs have been exhibited at home in Trinidad, in Martinique, the United States of America, Canada and Germany, winning a few awards along the way. His other works include photographing the History of the Renegades Steel Orchestra, edited by Prof. Milla Riggio with independent researcher Hélène Bellour and written by Dr. Kim Johnson.

He has also been published in a number of academic and commercial magazines.
